Spring cleaning on the first day of Autumn

It's not what I planned. But, girls here (some of whom were a surprise) have ambition far greater than mine. I planned to only clean the kitchen window, but Ashley and Hannah have gone wild, washing the shelves, drawers and cupboards. I participated by tackling the 'frig exterior and the floor under it. During sanity breaks, I've also cleaned the litter box, taken Jazz for a stroll, swept the deck, trimmed a couple of overgrown & frosted houseplants so they can come back inside, cleaned the kitchen light and replaced a bulb, and cheered Mother on while she did a surface clean on some furniture. Now, some home made pizza is in the oven and energy is dwindling.

Papa's in ICU

George & Jennie - RRMC ICU - 09/11/12
Rutland, VT ... Well, this afternoon, we met the man we knew!  But earlier and yesterday, it seemed touch and go. George was hospitalized with internal bleeding.  He's received 7 pints of blood and has 4-6 IV pumps running at any given time, with fluids and medicine included in the mix. The nurses put in a PICC line so they could more easily "feed" him and draw blood to monitor his stats. He's been agitated, combative, and disorientated. But, this afternoon, he spoke to us by name and was chuckling and grumbling like his old self.  It's important that he stay resting and still to allow the damage (at the point where his esophagus meets his stomach) to heal.  When checked by scope yesterday, the doctor found a clot at the site and "scoped" no further, to avoid interfering with that spot. So, we don't know if there's more damage along the way, beyond that spot, but for now, it appears that the bleeding has pretty much stopped. Papa wants us to "help me up ... We need to get out of here." but, we try to convince him to stay put and get better. He has a bit of a journey yet, but with progress like he's shown today, it seems the woods aren't quite so scary.

Writer's block ...

I can't seem to put anything together ... must be that life is too busy.  So, I've spent this day purposely doing as little as possible.  A soak in the tub, napping in my chair, Sudoku and thank you notes.  The house needs cleaning, the cupboards need refilling, the yard needs WORK!  But, I need to rest.  Of course, worrying about Papa in the hospital today isn't helping.  We debate whether and when to head to VT to be with him and Nana.  And, then we sit, trapped by the cat who claims our lap.  I've got Sebastien!
